Psychology Definition|The Unconventional Guide To Introduction
The last lecture you’ll ever need (as a student)
Foundation
Psychology is a science, based on purely scientific principles.
Innumerable people think of psychologists as mad people who get mentally disabled while treating others which is obviously not true (according to professional psychologists).
that's why almost everyone tried (at least once) to stop me from taking education of psychlogy.
apart from those who have this belief, there are a lot more people who think of psychology as the magic that enables you to read minds and predict the future.
This is also not true!
therefore,
by avoiding all of the myths, we are going to the authentic introduction.
by the way,
have you also believed accordingly?
about those powers of mind-reading?
Every myth is going to clear about psychology definition, education, and various psychology careers at the end. once we completed it.
Alright,
Let’s start from the very start__ 400–500 BC in ancient Greece.
Origins of psychology are traced back to 400–500 BC in ancient Greece.
Its roots are in philosophy.
Many great philosophers in history, were working on psychology but they didn't know what it is and its impact actually. They were labeling it as ‘philosophy’.
There are hardly any areas of life that psychology doesn’t study or touch upon. It has a wide impact and applications in almost all areas of life.
Definition
Like every other science, psychology grew from time to time.
And obviously, its definition was changing with that.
Its ancient time, psychology was defined as the “Study of the soul”
But they were unable to define ‘Soul’.
From then to this time definition kept changing until we got our modern definition.
“Psychology is a study of behavior, and mental process behind that behavior (of Humans as well as Animals)”
‘Animals’?
Is it look weird to you?
Because
We always used to think of it as the science of humans and a ‘Science for Humans’
Let me write the reason,
It is because sometimes we can’t perform all the experiments on humans due to safety.
So we make studies on animals in order to better understand ourselves and to use it for the benefit.
Are you getting the point?
Good!
We are moving forward now
Behavior is a simple, clear, and plain thing to see and understand.
But the mental processes that let those behaviors happen are hidden and disguised.
We can’t spot them and neither decodes them.
Accordingly, this is something psychologists have a great interest in...
Some Interesting Facts
1.Your favorite song is your favorite because you associate an emotional event with it.
2.When you try to remember an event, you are actually remembering the last time you remembered it rather than the event itself.
3.No one born blind has ever developed schizophrenia.
Why Do We Study Psychology
We are a creature born with a question.
??????????
And questions like why do we study psychology or any other subject?
But let’s not distract from the topic; Psychology
So, the #1 reason is that we have a built-in curiosity and questions.
We research to understand and to explain the mechanics of behavior and mental processes
And to develop a relationship between them
You may be confused with the research purpose
We will apply this knowledge to situations in everyday life to predict better for the future. And also to use this knowledge to control human behavior and mental process
Why Psychology Is A Science?
Again a WHY🙂🙂
Let’s touch briefly on the nature of psychology before going to its limitations and branches.
By nature, it’s a science!
So, this was the greatest discovery after Elon musk’s reusable rocket.
Not Funny?
Ok, my bad
better luck next time!
But you likely not know ‘WHY it is a science’?
It’s a science because psychology use scientific methods for gathering information and data,
Otherwise, the research is not considered authentic, reliable, and scientifically valuable.
Limitations Of Psychology
Even today most people think that the supernatural is the main cause of mental illness and disability
So, psychology doesn’t deal with supernaturals.
By the way,
Supernatural = evil spirits, demons, or ghosts
Accordingly,
Psychology only deals with those things which we can experience by our senses and describe in psychological/scientific terms
Popular Areas Of Psychology
Finally, here are some of the popular areas of psychology in 2021
